Cambridge Healthtech Institute’s 6th Annual

Advances in Purification & Recovery

Intensifying and Optimizing Next-Generation Downstream Processing

August 26-27, 2020

New and emerging molecules coming down the pipeline bring new sets of challenges to the downstream team. Downstream scientists are increasingly looking to disruptive technologies, including process intensification and optimization, automation, scale-down modeling and high-throughput processes to meet the challenges of higher upstream titers and complex molecules while improving product yield and reducing cost. CHI’s 6th Annual Advances in Purification & Recovery invites scientists to discuss their challenges in purification of new modalities such as viral vectors, exosomes, bispecifics and ADCs etc., and to share their latest development in next-generation processing by leveraging novel technologies, process intensification and digitalization.

Coverage will include, but is not limited to:

  • Downstream Processing of New Modalities and Complex Molecules
    • Viral vectors
    • exosomes
    • ADCs
    • bispecifics
    • fusions and other molecules
  • Disruptive Technologies in Purification and Recovery:
    • Affinity capture ligands
    • Higher capacity, higher resolution next-generation resins
    • Membrane chromatography to increase throughput
    • New precipitation or extraction technologies
    • Membrane absorbers – alternative to column steps for polishing a product
    • Expanded bed adsorption (EBA) to replace classic centrifugation and filtration trains
  • Process Intensification to Eliminate Existing Bottlenecks:
    • Intensified capture, in-line virus inactivation, flow-through polishing, in-line virus filtration, single pass filtration
    • Handling smaller volumes of materials semi-continuously or continuously
    • High-throughput processes that integrate up- and downstream unit operations
  • QbD to Increase Downstream Process Understanding and Design
  • Digital Transformation and Automation
    • Automating tasks and data to create efficiencies and improve data quality and accuracy
    • Advanced sensors and at-line measurements to eliminate hold-ups and speed up product release
